When you call, we'll ask what the door is doing (won't open, won't close, makes noise, fell off track), the rough age of the house if you know it, and whether it's a single or double door. That's usually enough to know what parts to bring on the truck.
After that we set a time to come look at it. If the fix is straightforward, a spring, a roller, a sensor out of alignment, we can usually do the work the same visit. If the door needs a part we don't carry on the truck, we'll tell you that plainly rather than have you wait around for a repair that isn't happening that day.
We don't do estimates over the phone for anything beyond a rough range, because a torsion spring job and a full panel replacement are not the same call, and guessing at a price before we've seen the door doesn't help either of us.

Work We Turn Down
Housing in this area mostly went up between 1938 and 2001, with the heaviest run of construction in the 1960s and 70s. That means a lot of original torsion hardware and springs sized for doors that have since been replaced with heavier insulated panels, a mismatch that shows up as a door that's hard to lift by hand even with the opener assisting.
We don't touch commercial overhead doors or fire-rated doors, that's a different set of parts and a different code than what we carry on the truck.
We also won't quote a repair over the phone as final. If a spring has been replaced with the wrong size before, or a track has been bent and straightened more than once, we need eyes on it before we say what it'll take.
And there are doors we tell people not to fix. Once a wood panel door from the older end of that 1938 to 2001 range has warped and delaminated, patching it costs more over a year or two than replacing it once. Richmond's cold-moderate winters are hard on wood doors that have already started to go soft at the bottom rail, and we'd rather tell you that up front than sell you a repair that won't hold.

Do you come out to Short Pump or Mechanicsville?
Yes. Short Pump is about 12 miles from our Richmond location and Mechanicsville about 10, both inside the area we regularly serve. Call and we'll confirm a time.
Do you work on commercial garage doors?
No. We work on residential garage doors only, springs, openers, tracks, panels, and cables on houses. Commercial and fire-rated doors need a different setup than what we carry.
Can you give me a price over the phone?
We can give you a rough range based on what you describe, but not a final number. Torsion spring jobs, panel damage, and track problems price out differently once we've actually seen the door.
